I am going to say this as plainly as I can.

Book early.

If your senior will graduate in the next year, do not wait until fall to start thinking about senior portraits.

I know senior year feels far away when they are still juniors. I know summer seems wide open until it suddenly is not. I know fall feels like the traditional time for senior portraits.

But after more than almost 30 years of photographing seniors, I can tell you this with confidence.

The families who book early have a calmer experience.

They have better date options.

They have more time to plan.

And their seniors usually show up more relaxed.

That matters.

What Happens When Families Wait Until Fall

Fall is beautiful. I understand why families love it.

The weather cools down. The colors change. Senior year feels real. Parents start thinking, “We should probably get portraits scheduled.”

The problem is that everyone else is thinking the same thing.

By August or September, prime senior dates are often already gone. The families who waited are trying to work around school, sports, homecoming, college visits, work schedules, and yearbook deadlines.

That is a lot.

And when a session gets squeezed into a packed calendar, the stress shows.

Your senior may be tired. Mom may be worried about the deadline. Outfits may be thrown together. Locations may be chosen quickly instead of thoughtfully.

Can we still create beautiful portraits in the fall? Absolutely.

But fall works best when booked early, not when handled in a rush.

Why Summer Sessions Work So Well

Summer senior sessions are underrated.

The evenings are longer. The schedule is usually more flexible. Seniors are not yet carrying the full weight of school, homework, sports, college applications, and every senior-year deadline.

There is breathing room.

That breathing room allows us to plan well.

We can talk about who your senior is. We can choose locations that actually make sense. We can plan outfits instead of grabbing whatever is clean. We can schedule around the best light rather than whatever tiny opening is left on the calendar.

In Southeast Kansas, summer evening light can be beautiful. Late sessions give us that warm, golden look families love without the rushed feeling that often comes once school starts.

Yearbook Deadlines Come Fast

This is the part that catches families off guard.

Yearbook deadlines are often earlier than parents expect. Some schools need senior images in the fall. Some have later deadlines, but you do not want to find that out when you are already behind.

If you book a session too close to the deadline, you are not just scheduling the photography. You also have to allow time for editing, viewing, choosing, ordering, and sending any yearbook file your school may need.

A summer session removes that pressure.

Your portraits are done. Your images are ready. Your yearbook needs can be handled without panic.

That is a gift to yourself.

What Early Booking Actually Gives You

Early booking is not about rushing.

It is about giving the experience enough space.

When you book early, you have better date options. You have more location choices. You have time to think through outfits. You have time for your senior to get comfortable with being photographed.

You also have time to choose the right collection.

At AKP, senior sessions are all-inclusive. A $175 session deposit reserves your date and is applied toward your collection. Most senior families plan to invest around $950 to $1,100, depending on the collection and experience they choose.

Because the collections include finished products and matching digital images, we are not just planning the session. We are also thinking about what you want to walk away with.

Albums. Wall portraits. Gift prints. Graduation display pieces. Digital images. Yearbook needs.

All of that is easier when we are not rushed.

Is Fall Ever the Right Choice?

Yes.

Some seniors really want fall color. Some athletes need a certain season. Some families simply love the look of autumn in Kansas.

That is completely fine.

The key is to book your fall session early.

A fall session booked in May or June is very different from one requested in September.

The sooner we know your senior wants a fall session, the more intentional we can be.

The Bottom Line

Senior year moves quickly.

The families who wait until the last minute usually feel it.

The families who book early get to breathe.

They get better choices, better planning, and a calmer experience from start to finish.

If your senior year is coming up, this is your nudge.

Do not wait until the calendar is full and the deadline is looming.

Let’s get your senior on the books and build something meaningful.
